(LAKELAND, Fla.)- Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS) has recently announced the appointment of Angela Thompson as the Director of the Hotline and Migrant Hotline, effective immediately. Thompson, a seasoned legal professional with a rich history of service to FRLS, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role.
"I look forward to working alongside Angela. Her experience, legal knowledge, and FRLS program expertise are a huge asset for the Firm," said Iola Mosley, Interim Executive Director of FRLS, expressing confidence in Thompson's abilities to lead in her new capacity.
Angela K. Thompson embarked on her legal career by spending approximately six months in private practice before transitioning to the role of Assistant State Attorney in LaBelle, where she served for two years. Thompson's journey with FRLS commenced in March 1998 when she joined as a staff attorney with the Children's Services Project in Belle Glade.
Over the years, Thompson has held various key positions within FRLS, showcasing her dedication and commitment to the organization's mission. Her roles have included Staff Attorney, Supervising Attorney, Managing Attorney, Managing Attorney of the Farmworker Hotline, and Family Law Workgroup (Co-Workgroup) Leader.
Thompson's primary areas of legal practice have encompassed social security disability law, housing law, and, particularly in the last seven years, family law. Her diverse skill set and deep understanding of legal matters have been instrumental in contributing to the success of FRLS programs.
Angela Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Florida (Institute of Food and Agricultural Science) and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law. Hailing from Belle Glade, her roots are deeply connected to the community, as the daughter and granddaughter of migrant farmworkers. Thompson's mother was born in Azucar, Florida, in farmworker housing, reflecting the profound impact of her family's history on her commitment to FRLS's mission.
