(FLORIDA) – With a critical paternity trial fast-approaching, a mother found herself in dire need of legal representation. The stakes were high for the woman and her children: she sought to establish a formal time-sharing plan with the father, obtain majority time with her children, and receive overdue child support payments pursuant to Florida law.
This mother came to Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS) for help. FRLS is a non-profit law firm providing free legal services to eligible individuals in thirteen counties and farmworkers statewide. Among a host of service areas, FRLS provides free legal advice, representation, and advocacy for Family Law matters, like paternity.
Through the Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) Program, FRLS' Pro Bono team connected the client with a private attorney volunteer who agreed to take on the case and provide full legal representation at no cost to the client.
With a champion newly in her corner, the client was able to secure a formal time-sharing plan through which she will have majority time with her children, as well as the crucial child support she was legally owed by the father, until the children turn eighteen. The client’s Pro Bono attorney attended the final hearing with the client, winning a favorable outcome for her.
