(BELLE GLADE, Fla.) — Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS), a non-profit law firm, is making significant strides in supporting families in the Glades area through its Access for Success program. Funded by a grant from the Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County, this initiative offers free civil legal assistance to children and low-income households with children.

The Access for Success program, which relies on client outreach and self-referral, addresses a wide array of legal issues. These include education law, Medicaid benefits, access to healthcare for children, disability benefits, family law and custody disputes, housing concerns, food stamps, and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) benefits. The program also assists families in protecting their incomes through wage and bank garnishment defenses.

Beyond legal services, the program connects clients with non-legal resources and other supportive agencies. Notable partners include BRIDGES in Pahokee and Belle Glade, the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County, and HomeSafe (Healthy Beginnings Entry Agencies), which all work towards bolstering family stability and functioning. FRLS can accommodate English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole-speaking residents, ensuring that language barriers do not impede access to critical services.

"The Access for Success program is a vital resource for families in the Glades area," said Kanisha Taylor, Managing Attorney at FRLS. "By providing comprehensive legal and referral assistance, we help ensure that children and their families can overcome challenges and build a stable foundation for their future."

FRLS, established with a mission to provide low income and vulnerable individuals with access to justice, aims to improve the well-being of families in the Glades community through comprehensive support. Their efforts ensure that families have the representation and resources they need for a better future.
