(LAKELAND, Fla.) — Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS), a non-profit law firm dedicated to providing high-quality legal services to those who cannot afford legal representation, has announced the hiring of Leticia Medina-Richman as its new Executive Director, effective October 15, 2024.
With more than two decades of experience in the legal aid sector, Medina-Richman brings a deep commitment to advancing access to justice for marginalized communities.
Prior to joining FRLS, Medina-Richman served as Chief Operating Officer at Community Legal Aid, where she oversaw key operational areas including human resources, information technology, and advocacy efforts. Her work involved implementing policies to support both staff and clients, developing and evaluating staff, and advocating in substantive areas crucial to the stability of low-income, elderly, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities.
"Her experience performing and leading advocacy efforts is impressive, along with her ability to oversee the administrative and compliance requirements to build a sustainable program," said Chrystal Martin-Thornton, FRLS Board Chair. "With her commitment to advocacy, people, policy management, and funder compliance, the Board is confident that we have the balance of skills, experiences, and leadership qualities necessary to advance the vision and mission of FRLS."
Medina-Richman expressed enthusiasm for her new role in a cover letter, stating, "I am excited about the opportunity to bring my unique blend of skills and experiences to the Executive Director position. I am confident that my background, coupled with my passion for social justice, makes me a strong candidate for this role."
Medina-Richman holds a law degree from Northeastern University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts with honors in English Literature from Smith College. Her extensive background in program management, staff supervision, and advocacy will be instrumental in guiding FRLS as it continues to provide essential legal services to low-income individuals and families across Central and South Florida.
Florida Rural Legal Services is an organization that serves 13 counties in both urban and rural areas and farmworkers statewide, with a focus on ensuring access to justice for all.
