(FORT PIERCE, Fla.)- Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS) hosted its first annual Season of Giving Health Fair on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the Havert L. Fenn Center in Fort Pierce, creating a one-stop-shop for vital health and legal resources. The event showcased the power of community collaboration, bringing together local organizations, businesses, and residents to address critical needs in the area.
With 16 participating organizations, the fair provided a wide array of services. Attendees accessed free diabetic screenings, blood pressure checks, and HIV health education alongside legal assistance for housing, family law, and disaster relief. Partners like Aetna Insurance Group, Florida Blue Health Insurance, the Lions Club of Port St. Lucie, and the St. Lucie County Fire Department joined FRLS to ensure a holistic approach to community care.
FRLS’s legal team was on-site to provide advice and resources, emphasizing the organization’s mission to bridge gaps in access to justice. The event allowed residents to address legal concerns alongside their health needs, offering a comprehensive support system in one convenient location.
The collaboration also extended to the Treasure Coast Food Bank, as attendees donated non-perishable food items to help families in need during the holiday season. Local businesses contributed to the event’s success by donating raffle prizes, including Publix gift cards, gift baskets, and a holiday ham, adding a festive element to the day.
"This event was about breaking down barriers and making essential resources—both health and legal—easily accessible in one place,” said an FRLS representative. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our community partners who share our commitment to serving those in need.”
The Season of Giving Health Fair highlighted the importance of partnerships in meeting the community’s needs. FRLS looks forward to continuing these collaborative efforts to expand access to health and legal services in the region.
