(LAKELAND, Fla.) — Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS) has announced the appointment of Monica Schomisch as the new Regional Managing Attorney for its Lakeland office, effective Monday, January 6. Schomisch brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to serving underserved communities, making her a valuable addition to FRLS’ leadership team.

Schomisch began her legal career at FRLS, dedicating twelve years as a staff attorney in the Lakeland office. Her extensive experience with FRLS’ mission and operations has provided her with a solid foundation in advocating for low-income clients. After her tenure at FRLS, she spent the past three years at Bay Area Legal Services, where she continued to serve vulnerable populations and built vital partnerships in Highlands and Hardee Counties, both of which fall under FRLS’ Lakeland service area.

Schomisch earned her law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law and has consistently demonstrated a passion for public service throughout her career. Her return to FRLS underscores the organization’s mission to provide high-quality legal assistance to low-income individuals and families across Florida.
