(FORT PIERCE, Fla.)- Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. is proud to announce that its managing attorney for the Fort Pierce Office, Iola Mosley, has been selected for the National Victim Assistance Academy Leadership Institute, a federal program for new and more seasoned leaders in the victim services field.
The Leadership Institute is spearheaded by the Office for Victims of Crime's Training and Technical Assistance Center.
It provides skill-based training to assist recipients in becoming a more effective leader with projects that focus on victims of domestic violence and victims of underserved populations who face barriers accessing justice and many who are vulnerable to abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to serve victims throughout our service areas and this acknowledgement of FRLS leadership by VOCA is notable," said Jaffe Picket, FRLS' executive director and chief executive officer. "FRLS is proud of this recognition and selection of Managing Attorney Mosely. FRLS is happy to continue our comprehensive victim services, made available through the Victims of Crime Act for all victims of crime regardless of income.”
The pandemic has expanded and exacerbated chronic unmet need in the 19th Judicial Circuit for attorneys to represent victims of crime particularly victims of underserved populations including elderly victims, victims with disabilities, non-English speaking victims, victims who are members of racial, ethnic and cultural minorities and victims living in rural areas.
These victims have multiple barriers limiting their ability to access assistance and many cannot afford an attorney. They need legal representation to address legal needs arising from their victimization.
This training, which is a combination of highly interactive, self-paced training and collaborative, facilitated webinars, runs for 11 consecutive weeks.
